Measuring Yourself
Into the Wild is one of my favorite movies of all time because it's about someone who, although I know, is selfish, does what he wants regardless of societal pressures. He goes into the wild and meets all kinds of people.
I'm inspired when I travel and I meet people and hear their stories. I've made many friends traveling, many of which I'm still very close with.
After watching Free Solo, I realized that I needed to change something in my life.
I forgot how much I love stories about people that go above and beyond what they think they can do or what society makes them think they should do.
So, I'm going to camp in Joshua Tree.
Either for a weekend or a week.
I've always wanted to go. I've always wanted to do something crazy and on my own.
I want to hike and see what happens.
There's a quote from Into the Wild:
"I read somewhere that it's important in life to not only necessarily be strong but to feel strong, to measure yourself at least once."
If Alex can climb El Capitan with no rope and Cheryl can walk the PCT for months, I can camp in Joshua Tree - and hopefully, that's just a start.
