Look Up - Life on the Train

Sometimes, when I take the train I see people that make an ordinary day a whole lot less.

Today, I saw a kid looking through the window of the train’s first car, to see the tracks going by like he was driving us. He told his dad, “I don’t want to leave, I want to stay until Broadway Junction”. And so, his patient father said goodbye to his newly met friends, a couple celebrating their anniversary in New York City, and stayed in the train until Broadway Junction.

Look up and listen. There are stories to hear and tell everywhere.

Delays on the train this morning. The car is packed. A man is about to faint, and an older woman offers him her seat. Another man hidden in the crowd, offered him his brand new, cold, water bottle. They talked to him and made sure he was feeling alright for the rest of the ride.

A nice slice of life to get you out of your own head in the morning. Reminding you that there is some good left in humanity.

The subway really teaches you how to avoid eye contact with crazy people.

A man walked into the car laughing loudly by himself. He sat right in front of me and he would go from Joker laughs to a straight face every five seconds. A couple seats away, there’s a man desperately seeking friendship kept trying to make eye contact with the Joker - who got really mad and started to shout.

So the lonely man decided to sit next to me, in front of the Joker who got annoyed and left.

10am is too early for stuff like this.

Nelly Chartier

At 23 years old, I didn’t accept where my life was. I was waiting for it to start. So I packed two suitcases and landed in New York City.
